Why am I wasting $20 a month on ChatGPT Plus when Bing Chat is free?

ChatGPT Plus really isn’t worth it.

As an avid fan of AI technology, I have found myself using it in various forms on a daily basis, with Bing Chat and ChatGPT being two of my go-to platforms. However, in recent weeks, I have been left feeling a little disappointed with my ChatGPT subscription, which costs $20 per month for the premium tier known as ChatGPT Plus.

Initially, I was excited about the prospect of using GPT-4 on ChatGPT, along with the possibility of enjoying new plugins and other features that OpenAI had in store. However, a few months down the line, I find myself questioning whether the $40 I have spent so far has been worth it.

This feeling of disillusionment was further compounded when Microsoft announced a host of new features that would be added to Bing Chat soon. These features include plugins, chat history support, exporting and sharing functionality, visual answers such as charts and graphs, and support for over 100 languages, among others. What’s more, these features will be available to all users of Bing Chat, free of charge.

While Microsoft has invested billions of dollars in OpenAI, it appears to be outshining the company in its own game. ChatGPT may have over 100 million active users, but I’m willing to bet that most of them aren’t paying subscribers. Rather, it’s the early adopters, tech enthusiasts, and press who are shelling out for ChatGPT Plus.

To access new features such as plugins and browsing, you need to be both a paid subscriber and on a waitlist. Even then, only a lucky few have been granted access so far. As a ChatGPT Plus subscriber, the only new feature I’ve been given access to is the same one available to free users – GPT-4.

Comparatively, Bing Chat is accelerating much faster, and with its new features, it’s starting to catch up to what ChatGPT already offers, and in some cases, surpass it. It’s also worth noting that Bing Chat is positioning itself as a development platform, with more to come at the upcoming Build event.

While it’s understandable that OpenAI is still scaling up, its approach to charging for ChatGPT needs a complete overhaul. To tell people they can pay for early access to new features, only to keep them waiting indefinitely without any indication of when they’ll receive them, is simply not acceptable.

In contrast, Microsoft’s approach to Bing Chat is more refreshing. While it’s possible that a Bing Chat Insider program may be introduced, similar to other Insider programs, Microsoft doesn’t charge for such programs. Instead, it’s likely that premium features may be introduced through Microsoft 365, such as an ad-free experience or priority access.

I can say with confidence that ChatGPT Plus is not worth the money. With Bing Chat accelerating much faster and offering more features for free, OpenAI needs to rethink its approach to charging for ChatGPT before it’s too late. Otherwise, Microsoft will continue to show them up, and ChatGPT may find itself losing subscribers to its free competitor.

In recent years, chat platforms have become an essential tool for businesses of all sizes. They allow employees to communicate with each other in real-time, no matter where they are in the world. From project management to customer support, chat platforms are used for a wide variety of purposes. However, with so many options available, it can be difficult to know which one is right for your business.

One of the most popular chat platforms is ChatGPT Plus. This paid service offers a wide range of features, including customizable chatbots, data analysis, and integrations with other business tools. However, at $20 a month per user, it’s not cheap. So, why are businesses still paying for ChatGPT Plus when Bing Chat is available for free? In this article, we’ll explore the benefits of both platforms and help you decide which one is right for your business.
